“씨앗이 움트고, 꽃을 피우고, 열매를 맺는 생태의 순 환 속에서 모호하고 불안한 마음이 정돈되는 경험을 자주 했습니다. 식물의 그런 모습은 우리의 균열 안으로 들어가 살아갈 힘을 부여하지요. 현대인의 불안과 결핍, 빈약하고 위태로운 마음의 ‘선’을 비유하기 위해 찾아낸 것이 박주가리 씨앗이었습니다”
"Within the ecological cycle of germination, blooming, and fruiting, I often find my ambiguous and anxious thoughts becoming more ordered," Hwang explains. "Plants possess the power to enter our broken and parted places to grant us the strength to live. I discovered swallow-wort seeds as a metaphor for the fragile, precarious threads of contemporary human anxiety, deficiency, and vulnerability."
